This is the year I awaken and get myself
a coach to crack my comfort-zone limitations.
Will this be your 4-minute-mile year, or are you comfortably
squashed into your safe restrictive comfort-zone already?
As each new year begins, we seem to start off with highly
zestful intentions of making those longstanding changes that
we didn’t make, or complete, last year or the year before
that.
The New Year provides a line of comparison. It provides an
opportunity to close off the books on last year and check
how we did against our previous new years good intentions.
For many, if we are really honest, we will have to admit
that we only possibly completed about 20%-30% of our
intended goals.
We may have stopped smoking… for a while. We prevailed! We
conquered the urge to suck on the “safe” smoky end of our
dictatorial cigarettes. But somehow when the turmoil
strikes, we revert back to old habits, even though we
logically know that they are bad for our health and
well-being. Who is really in control here?...Me or the
cigarettes?
We may have lost those extra kilo’s over the year, but I
seem to have got them all back as an unexpected Xmas gift
again this year! Never mind I’ll start soon! Yea Right!
It seems, I know I need to do something about my
relationships, health, finances, job, etc…but I just can’t
seem to get my act together for any length of time. It seems
to be a whole lot easier just to stay comfortably numb, and
constricted, in our comfort-zones, rather than breaking out,
and stretching beyond our self-imposed restrictions and
limitations.
It’s just easier to eat like I always have. I know… I know…
I know… I should lose those extra 10Kg-15Kg’s, but its just
too much effort right now.
Even though it’s the beginning of 2006, I’m tired already! I
just don’t seem to have the determination, the will or the
staying power to keep myself focused on achieving my 2006
goals. Before I’ve even started I’m already making excuses
of why I won’t achieve some of my goals!
Wouldn’t it be great if we could completely change this
situation, and perspective, and have a complete turn-around
in attitude, energy and action?
Well you can do this. Either, on your own with a lot of
self-discipline, focus and commitment, or you can decide to
collaborate with someone to become your 2006
“break-your-comfort-zone” coach.
You could make an agreement with a friend (Or an
inspiringwomen.co.za coach) to hold you accountable to
deliver on your promises and agreements on a regular basis
throughout the year.
Regarding breaking the comfort-zone, I always wonder what
I’m “breaking” when I break out of my comfort-zone. Here is
what I have come to discover when I decide to move beyond
the restrictive limitations and the flimsy illusion of
safety, of my comfort-zone.
I begin to see new possibilities when I push through my
self-imposed insecurities, and robotic reactions, that act
as brakes to my high powered good intentions.
I begin to see I can be a lot happier, because I decide to
be, in spite of my circumstances.
I begin to sense I can be a lot healthier, because I value
my body to take me on this journey, reliably and
efficiently.
I begin to feel lighter and free, because I let go of
unnecessary static, and energetic leaks like prejudices,
angers, hurts and losses
I begin to see that I am worthy, wonderful and valuable, in
spite of external emotional projections and undermining
snipes from others.
I begin to understand that almost all of my limitations are
self-imposed limitations until I decided to push through
them, to discover my “gold” on the other side of my
challenge or fear.
I begin to know myself as a Divine, Energetic Loving Soul,
who has boundless resilience and resources like Love,
Compassion, Courage, Strength, Passion, Purpose, and a
Powerful Destiny beyond just paying the for clothing, food
and rent with my job.
As we move into 2006, with all of its possibilities,
opportunities and potential, our Soul is called to turn away
from our past victim-ology based beliefs and behaviors to a
new future… full of Magic and Personal Mastery. We are
called to take a stand for something really special… our
Selves. We are called to let go of everything that we use to
hold ourselves back and set ourselves free to fly.
Like the mother bird, who, with Love, must compel her
“ready-to-fly “chicks to the edge of the nest. And even
though they stand on the edge, quivering in disbelief and
fear, she, with love, MUST push them out of their
comfort-zone nest for them to discover that they are able
and ready to fly.
You too, as an inspired woman, have the opportunity to
nudge, and be nudged, gently beyond your perceived
limitations and “edges”. By inspiring others we begin to
inspire ourselves. To cause another to have what you seek,
can be one of your most incredible acts of creation and
personal mastery.
Right now, you have the opportunity to take the steps to
gently nudge yourself towards the very edge of your own
restrictive comfort zones, and eventually set in motion your
visions, and actions, that will enable you to truly discover
that you can, in fact, fly through 2006, with Love, Passion,
Power and achieve amazing success – quicker and simpler.
Few realise that Roger Bannister’s running coach was the
first one to really run the 4-minute-mile…in his mind! He,
thereafter, was able to inspire Roger to move towards the
edge and break through his mental limitations, restrictive
beliefs, and constrictive comfort zones, and get Roger to
believe in the possibility of cracking the 4 minute mile
barrier. Without Roger’s coach’s ever-present belief,
support, nudging and inspiration, Roger may never have
achieved his dream of being the first to break the 4 minute
mile barrier.
And so as we move inevitably into 2006, what will you decide
to do today? Will you stay locked into your comfort zone, or
will you move towards the edge, to finally discover that you
have the power to fly?
You will need to move past those limiting, restrictive
beliefs, fears and projections into an uncomfortable space
for a while. For it is in the discomfort that we may
discover that which we never realised we had inside.
So as your first resolution for 2006, resolve to get
uncomfortable. Resolve to push past your limitations and
fears. Resolve to move enthusiastically towards the edge of
your current comfort-zones. And once there, take a leap,
with faith, into your envisioned future. You may decide to
engage the inspiring services of our inspiringwomen.co.za
2006 coaching programme, or you may decide to go it solo.
Either way, make a list of inspiring things to achieve in
2006, and begin to take massive action today.
Once you have decided, and resolved, to do these things –
Take Action…massive…massive action. Remember the joke about
wo birds sitting on a fence, and the one bird decides to fly
away. How many are left?...Not one…Silly. TWO birds are
left! Taking a decision does not necessarily mean taking the
action.
Step 1. Decide what you
plan to achieve this year and write it down specifically and
clearly.
Step 2. Break each
item/goal into smaller “bite” sized chunks – Chunk down to
manageable steps for weekly actions.
Step 3. Devise a loose
plan of actions and how you will overcome any hurdles or
challenges
Step 4. Commit, to your
buddy/coach, that each day/week you WILL complete something
from this list
Step 5. Meet or call
your buddy /coach each week to chat about how you went with
your commitments. From the last week and for the next week -
share 3 things to START, 3 things to STOP and 3 things to
CONTINUE with.
Step 6. Reward yourself
for your successes and plan ways around your other areas
where you may have slipped up.
Please ask your buddy/coach to hold you VERY FIRMLY to
keeping your agreements of performance. NO berating,
blaming, excuses or guilt trips – just clear and honest
commitment followed by required actions. May you enjoy the
journey as we grow together this year.
As my mom used to tell me as I went of to my intermittent
provincial hockey trials, “Don’t take it easy, go and take
it ALL!” May 2006 bring you your greatest thrills,
challenges and success with lots of love, laughter,
lightness and good health.
