One of the most important trends emerging
as areas of concern for companies is talent retention.
Recent research conducted on South Africa reveals that
Talent Retention is the no 1 issue for HR professionals and
leaders.
I'm just amazed at how the leaders and
managers continue to behave, with old world attitudes,
behaviors and beliefs, without understanding the impact of
their actions on Employee Engagement. Leadership was 3rd most important in
the research with Stress management right next to leadership
development.
It seems clear to me that the stress
issues and staff enagement levels are closely related to leadership issues. The
workplace somehow seems to have become more stressful,
more pressurized, less satisfying and less supportive.
There is a big disconnect between the
head and the heart. The driving factor seems to be
MONEY, MONEY, MONEY, almost at any cost.
It's no wonder that Gallup's research in
the area of Staff Engagement revels such shockingly low
numbers. And I believe it's the leaders fault! NO one else
is to blame but the leader.
The role of leader has shifted over the
last decade, from know, and do, it all to visualise,
energise, mobilise and synthesise.
I want my leader to inspire me and make sure we
are on the right "path", in the right "forest". Today staff know
far more than many of their leaders will ever know about the
details and day to day stuff. Staff are the ones who solve
the frontline problems, and carry the company flag into the
future.
With global competition spreading like a
turbo-charged virus, leaders can no longer afford to utilise
old leadership paradigms and beliefs. They need to
behave and act in new ways. The need to become a different
kind of leader. They need new skills and understandings.
A New Economy Leader leads from their center
core - Soul - with passion, authenticity, integrity and
care. A new economy leader has an executive coach, who
provides honest feedback, insights, ask difficult questions,
and hold the leader accountable to hi/her word.
When today's staff, who are a whole lot more
savvy than 20 years ago, see the indiscretions of their
leaders it begins to destroy the fabric of trust, truth and
engagement in the organisation.
I'll bet you anything that any leaders
indiscretion is well known throughout the organisation.
