After some really hard visioning and
planning and consideration, I have
decided to develop a top ten insights resource, which could eventually become
a book or resource of sorts for apprentice entrepreneurs, entrepreneurs,
managers, leaders and just about anybody who is open to
learn from life.
I feel that there is so much wisdom, experience and
knowledge out in the world that we should create a valuable
top tem quick read, easy access, resource for people who are open, and ready, to learn from
other people's lessons, insights and first-hand experiences.
So what I'm proposing is that IF you are
interested in sharing nuggets of your business and life
wisdom with us, I'll set up a process to share it with
others.
Somewhat like the Chicken Soup for the
Soul kind of process. Except this is wisdom from the wiser,
from experienced business people.
I think we all get a lot more wisdom as we journey through
life. I just wish I had some of this wisdom earlier on in my
life. I don't believe that I have to burn to learn
that the stove is hot! I can learn the essential principles
and insights from people who have already been there, done
that, and are ready to pass on their t-shirts.
So essentially here's the opportunity.
You give me your details (Confidentially if required), I'll
collate the stuff we can use and share with other business
owners, manager, leaders and interested parties. It's
somewhat like business wisdom research.
So here are some of my Top Ten Tips and
Nuggets of Wisdom I can rustle up for you right now.
Tony Dovale's Top Ten
Insight of Business Wisdom.
1. Keep your personal IDENTITY and work
ROLES distinctly separate.
Eg People often say... I'm a Lawyer, or a doctor, or a
stock trader etc. The problem with this is when your
"Work-Identity" fails to live up to personal expectations or
crashes, like a stock market, so too does the persons whole
IDENTITY foundation.
Rather say I'm a spirit/person/ or other more suitable
description, who is playing a role as a stockbroker right
now, and a role as a father and a role as a lover, and a
role as a xyz... to what ever suites your ROLES. You are
more than your ROLE.
2. Let go of everything that does not
positively serve or support you.
I coach many people who are still locked into past
stuff. They are firmly holding on to the
righteousness, and power of blame, judgment and martyrdom/victim hood.
The past is over...So let it all go. Embrace the Present you
are given NOW, each moment of NOW. By holding on to
nothing, you are almost invincible. Try it.
3. Engage everyone in your companies
vision/destiny, cause and calling...
all the way from the
sweeper, the tea girl and receptionist, all the way to the
leadership and other stakeholders, get them fully involved in
developing, visualizing, creating and proposing and ideal
Destiny, Cause and Calling. If you involve them from
the start you get real buy-in and commitment, ownership and
longer term support.
4. My relationship with you has got
very little to do with you...
...It's got everything to do with ME - my thoughts, my
projections, my prejudices, my evaluations, my mental
programming, my emotional states, my rules, my fears, my
beliefs and my values. Did I tell you it's MY issue not yours?
Before you blame someone, look hard in the mirror for your
"shadow issues" and own them. Do something about them. Stop
blaming and start claiming.
5. There is a bigger game than money and
business.
Whilst we all, (almost all) do some kind of work to
generate income to support a lifestyle we've created, we
often get caught up in focusing on the little stuff, and
missing out on the big stuff. What's the difference? The big
stuff is the stuff you'll think about in your last days and
weeks of your life.. like whose live did you impact. Who did
you love, care for, and cherish. The precious moments of
deep honesty and sharing. The ripples you'll leave on the
pond of life.
The little stuff?... You know it all the BS we buy into to
be good enough, liked, respected, acknowledged etc... All
the fear based ego stuff. Take your Soul to work with
you tomorrow and invite your staff to do the same. Your
company and life may never be the same again.
6. There is never enough time to do a
proper job the first time
It's amazing how I constantly run out of time. I
occasionally end up doing a less then perfect job because "I don't have
enough time!" Somehow when the job/work / project
is returned, rejected or critted, somehow, I am able to "create" the
time to eventually do a proper job. Why couldn't I
create this space in the first place? I could have! So can
you. There is always enough time to do a better job.
7. The Human Element is critical to your
success.
Decisions, choices, relationships, results and resolution of
problems are all products of human intervention, not of
machines. We spend money on maintain, upgrading and
installing new machines. How much do you invest in your most
valuable assets?
When Last did you upgrade, maintain or install new mental
software into your staff? The true understanding of the
value of the Human Element is the cause of the shift from Command and Control
to the Champion and Channel approach. Most managers
are hired for their technical, skill, knowledge and
experience, and fired for their inability to effectively
work with people.
8. Your great health is worth more than
money.
Why is it that we create such stress, tension,
frustration, anger, etc, which all eventually creates some
kind of illness, uneasiness or DIS-ease? We spend our
health to get money, then we have to spend our money to get
health. I recently heard a 100 year old man on the TV
(I was listening - not watching) and his gem of wisdom to
the audience was this profound statement that really hit
home.- "If I'd known I was going to live this long, I would
have looked after my body a whole lot better. Yeowks!
Big lesson here.
9. Comfort zone = Stagnate Zone
Get out of your comfort zone on a regular basis.
Do things that stretch you. Help your staff to do the same.
As Einstein said we cannot solve the problem and the level
we created it. You need to move to a new and different
perspective. Get a little zany, whacky and extreme.
Do some thing new and outrageous. Get your staff
involved in reinventing your business products,
services and customer offerings.
10 Keep your Word, it's all you'll ever
have of real value.
We come into this life with nothing but our presence and our
Word. We leave with nothing but our Word. How good is your
Word in between arriving and leaving?
IS it worth it to betray your Soul (Break your
Word/integrity) just for some plain old money? I'm
always amazed at how far we've come from the days when your
handshake was good enough for your word and bond. It's
a pity men in general seem to have "lost" their integrity.
The ladies may well show us up.
