Building Resilience by Upgrading
your Mental Operating System & Tools (MOST)
Each day 2 Billion+ women awaken with the
daunting task of engaging, surviving, growing, thriving,
collaborating, competing and getting the job done in a male
dominated world.
This patriarchal system has prevailed for over 6,000 years.
In almost every corner of importance to mankind, whether
that be religion, government, leadership or politics, men
have dominated and excluded women from playing a meaningful
and valuable role.
Although the balance is slowly shifting, it’s still a big
mountain to climb before women have a level and equal
playing field – if that will ever come to pass.
What I have come to discover is that most women have already
had a MOST (Mental Operating System & Tools) upgrade
already. I find that in almost every set of circumstances
women have higher Resilience or AQ (Adversity intelligence).
I feel that it is as important to know where you stand, as
it is to know what you stand for, and can stand. I have to
acknowledge the fact the women generally have higher
resiliency than most men.
When I listen to the Zuma and Oprah style stories, see the
news, hear personal histories in my coaching and workshops,
I am constantly made aware of how incredibly resilient our
women. So, well done women – I acknowledge and admire you as
mightily resilient.
Given less than half of what most women endure, almost every
man would have exploded in anger, sulked, and given up
completely. It’s not to say that men have low resilience,
It’s just that I have seldom met many men who have had to
endure half of what we have put women through in our culture
and society. Whilst it is not my intention to bash all men,
some men really do require more than a bashing though!
So ladies, if you would see value of increasing your
resilience or adversity intelligence even more, stay with me
for today is your day.
So often people with equal ability, assets, skills and
opportunity just don’t make it! What is it that makes the
core difference? AQ or Adversity Intelligence, developed by
Dr. P Stoltz (USA), will show you why some people are
resilient and persistent and why some just give up.
AQ predicts performance, motivation, empowerment,
productivity, emotional health, persistence, resilience,
attitude, energy, creativity, learning, happiness and
vitality. The discipline of AQ (Adversity Intelligence) is
the meeting of 3 scientifically backed mainstream fields of
human studies:
• PNI – Psycho-neuro-immunology
• Neurophysiology
• Cognitive Psychology
Scientifically and statistically supported with thousands of
research papers, tests and existing information over the
last 25 years, AQ (Adversity Intelligence) comes out of the
academic research system as the most reliable form of
success prediction.
AQ profiling (Resilience measurement) is the tool used to
measure what needs to be addressed for you, or your staff,
to ascend the “mountain”. The higher your AQ the more
valuable you are to yourself and your company. AQ controls
your energy and your results. AQ measurement reveals the
level of a persons ability to prevail in the face of
adversity. AQ is the measurement of the defining lines
between “Quitters”, “Campers” and “Climbers”.
Through Adversity Intelligence profiling, we measure a
persons, or a company’s, CORE resilience and ability in 4
distinct areas:
• Control – real or perceived control of
circumstances or a situation.
• Origination/Ownership – who created the adversity?
- (Criticism, Naming, blaming, Shaming) Ownership – who owns
the adversity? - (Responsibility, Response–Ability)
• Reach – How far will this challenge reach into
other areas of my life and business?
• Endurance – How long will the Cause last and how
long will the problem last?
AQ (Resilience profiling) is an indispensable tool for
managers, leaders, parents and students to be able to
assess, evaluate and enhance a persons potential. Once you
identify your self-defeating patterns of mental reaction and
automated response to life’s challenges and problems, you
can then re-design new strategies and perspectives, upgrade
your Mental Operating System & Tools. And that will empower
your to meet new challenges more appropriately and
effectively in today’s ever challenging times.
Once you understand your AQ you can begin to understand why
you are where you are in life and why you react as you do.
To improve/ learn in the different areas of life we need to
know that there is room for improvement. Once you understand
what and how your AQ controls your destiny, you can begin to
enhance it incrementally.
With enhancing you AQ you can learn to:
• Create a new mental paradigm that will shift negative
encounters or losses into learning opportunities
• Increase self-management, stop blaming and reduce
emotional sabotage and overwhelm
• Interrupt pre-defined “non-effective” reactions to
problems and challenges
• Reduce set-back recovery times and enhance resiliency
factors
• Overcome the debilitating setbacks of stress and
miscommunications
• Increase health, happiness and well-being
• Increase understanding and communications in your team or
company
• Enhance your competitiveness, creativity and learning
ability
• Turn some of your “camper” into “climbers”
Resilience profiling is purely a measurement, or insight, to
the programmes a person runs in their mind. Measurement is
one thing, upgrading and dramatically improving your AQ
ability is completely another process. There are specific
strategies and processes to enhance your resilience skills
and abilities even more that you have right now.
The bottom line is that we all have mental programmes
running. Some may be thought-viruses, that will lower our
resilience and some may be extremely good programmes that
enhance our AQ scores and ability.
Through my personal workshops and research I have discovered
that there is another important, hidden, dimension of
Resilience – that of your energy levels. If you have
insufficient energy to action the intention – even with good
resilience programmes in your head, you are stuck.
Your initial steps to increasing your AQ or resilience are:
1. Become aware of your mental chatter. What is the tone and
the content. Is it “victim” or “poor-me” based, or is it
“victor” based with an “I shall overcome” attitude.
2. Begin to assess how you expend your energy, consciously
and unconsciously. Are you leaking or investing your energy
into unnecessary memories?
3. step 3….
