The

Bronwyn Allen
- Executive & Business Coach bronwynallan@telkomsa.net
Bronwyn has 30 years’ experience as a chartered accountant and
tax consultant, mostly at senior management and executive
level, in a range of industries spanning engineering,
manufacturing, finance, tax consulting, and corporate banking.
She has championed the cause of women in business and has done
significant work in sourcing finance for, and educating,
scores of black entrepreneurs to help them find a place in the
mainstream business economy.
She left corporate life in 2004 to offer her considerable
knowledge and experience as an Executive and Business Coach
specialising in coaching women and black managers in a
corporate environment and people in life-changing
circumstances e.g. outplacement, retrenchment, planned and
unplanned career changes, etc.
The last five years of her corporate career was spent as a
Divisional Director in Standard Bank’s Corporate Banking
Division. Here she was responsible for, among other things,
heading up and managing the Resources team and, particularly,
for making sure that clients’ needs were properly serviced.
The clients were listed mining companies. Deals ranged in size
from R50m to R2bn. Their purpose was to help the mining
companies finance their BEE initiatives. She was also
responsible for staff training and it was here that she
championed the company’s coaching and mentoring programme..
Prior to joining Standard Bank Bronwyn worked as Financial
Director of Zeltis Holdings, where she assisted in starting up
an investment holding company, which was listed on the JSE,
and for Syfrets where she was General Manager in charge of
Risk Management and Monitoring.
During her time at Syfrets she once again found herself at the
forefront of new initiatives in the business world. She
attended a course at the INSEAD business school in France on
Risk Management in Banking.
Previously she worked for three years for Nedcor Bank where
she held two positions: Senior Tax consultant (Project
Finance) and Senior Equity Fund Manager (NedEnterprise).
She assisted with the structuring of project finance deals and
managed and monitored equity fund investments on behalf of
investment management companies. She also had to employ and
manage a team of professionals with the necessary training and
experience to ensure that the equity funds met their targets.
While at NedEnterprise she was a member of National
Association of Women Business Owners where she organised
assistance from the company with premises for meetings,
sponsorships and finance.
During this time she was asked to establish two venture
capital funds of approximately R50m each specifically for the
SME market. The funds were primarily intended for black
entrepreneurs. The funds were established with foreign
development institutions (FDIs).
Bronwyn held Tax Partner with Coopers Lybrand where she headed
up the VAT division when VAT was introduced, which entailed
working with Professor Louise Tager on helping to educate the
business community, as well as Coopers and Lybrand’s clients,
regarding VAT.
